Washington, Ark.
Dec 4th 1869
Mr Wm M. Colby
Dear Friend
I suppose you have received mine of the 24th inst, it remained in this post office a few days, through mistake. Capt. Kent told me he would post mark the letter back to the time it was first in, if wished, but it was unlawful to do so. I replied I could not encourage him to do wrong, but would explain to you the cause of so long a delay.
Last week I did not feel at all well, though I was not out of school. I had symptoms of Pneumonia, took some medicine, and was relieved.
