Union City Perry Co. Ark. Dec 4: 1869. Mr. Colby sir. The substitute for a black board which I obtained from you near or a bout the first of Nov., last has been in my charge till now. I put it up according to your instruction as soon as suitable plank could be procured for its frame, & have been using it past two weeks & with my present experience of it I must say it is a very good substitute as long as it's unexposed to rain & carefully used. I have filled those monthly reports and detained them till now because of no safe means by which to sent them by mail or hand. When I saw you last I thought they could & would be sent to you in two week at least as Mr. Colby had promised me that he would come down in a bout that time but he got disappointed in having his cotton gined as soon as expected & consequently this delayed his coming. Thought I will send them as soon as I can though & can not promise you that they are precisely filled but I tried to to the best of my knowledge.
