Hon Wm. M. Colby Dr. Sir. Enclosed please find Report and Receipts for April. Brother McCoy told me to sign Receipts. I did not think it right for me to do so, and declined. Measles still raging & School nearly "Played Out." Col. Patterson having the change of our school lots in hand was unexpectedly called to the Rock, which accounts for the delay. Returned to day. I will now urge the matter all it will bear. I have been appointed Asst. Marshall to take the Census for this County. Commence about the first of June. If you are on good terms with Patterson. Please see him and ask him to make me his Deputy here. Plenty of bouts are violating law and parties and anxious to tie them up. My Military and Political antecedents are untarnished.
