I have been here endeavoring to get up a pay school, but they are slow to move. I tried a day school but only his have attended as yet. The colored people seem very desirous that I shall remain among them and some have promised to do this utmost to get up a large night school. I have obtained a situation in the Clerk's office where I can write during the day thereby earning something, and at night I will
try the school. Board is high here and taking everything together I have looked at times on the dark side and felt almost discouraged. Yet I have a friend and to him I am willing to leave all. I
