Never had an existence and think never will - I asked this blackboard for my school & it was refused. Now the condition of the Cold, school house is this. It was built by contribution of the whites - the land was donated and there is a good frame house - this house needs ceiling, sides - ends & above - 2 stoves & pipe and seats - I furnished tables - These things are necessary - I do not think it would be good policy to incorporate this estimate in the special tax soon to be levied for school expenses, and the negroes are really not able or willing - Therefore if the U.S. helps us any, I propose to expend it on furniture for this house, and the balance of the work I can run without much difficulty.

Besides I wish to say that should you have any official business with me you will correspond direct, or thro. Mr Gillam Supt at Batesville.

Very Respectfully
