ARTICLES OF AGREEMENT

Made and entered into this 14 day of June eighteen hundred and seventy, at Little Rock, Arkansas, by and between WILLIAM M. COLBY, Superintendent of Education, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, for and on behalf of the United States of America, of the first part, and R L King, of the town of Little Rock county of Pulaski, State of Arkansas, parties of the second part:

This Agreement Witnesseth, That the said Wm. M. Colby, Superintendent of Education, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, for and on behalf of the United States of America, and the said R. L King for themselves, their heirs, executors, and administrators, have mutually agreed, and by these presents do mutually covenant and agree to, and with each other, as follows:

That the said R. L King shall, and will within the space of ninety days next after the date hereof, in a good and substantial manner, and at their next date hereof, in a good and substantial manner, and at their own private charge and expense, build, erect, and finish, a school-house in the town of Rocky Comfort, State of Arkansas, agreeable to the plans, drafts, and specifications hereto attached and made a part of this contract.

And it is further mutually agreed, That the said R L King shall and will at their own private charge and expense furnish all the material necessary for the building and finishing of said school-house; also, that [[strikethrough]]t[[/strikethrough]]he[[strikethrough]]y[[/strikethrough]], the said R L King shall and will do all the work on said school-house in a good, substantial and workmanlike manner, and to the entire satisfaction of a competent inspector. 

In consideration whereof, the said Wm. M. Colby, Superintendent of Education, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, in behalf of the United States of America, does covenant and agree to and with the said R. L King well and truly pay, or cause to be paid, unto the said R. L King the sum of twenty and hundred fifty dollars lawful money of the United States, [[inserted]] $1,000, when the lawful cash, doors, frames &c are on the ground & the balance [[/inserted]] on the completion and acceptance of the above described building.
