Franklinton Dec. 28th 1867
Lt Thomas Hay
Sir
My hands have all left, me & my cotton in the field I would be glad for you to make the settlement between me & them & appoint a day for it When you can come down here, or I will meet you at Franklinton as you may prefer. I will give the particulars when I see you & you can judge for yourself how my farm has bee neglected, laziness & demoralization have donee their work & all after my liberal prices to encourage them. I have paid them their monthly wages regularly, & I believe they would have worked as well for fifty dollars, as for what I gave them, so unprincipled are they.
Please let me hear from you soon
respectfully.
