"Dock Dickerson" having recd your summons dated 25' Jany 1868 for him to appear before you to answer complaint of Louis Hawkins (F) requests me to write you.

Dickerson says Louis Hawkins has no just complaint against him & therefore he does not appear.

Louis was Groom to a Stud belonging to Mr. Wright. 

J Dickerson put his mare once only to the Horse & then let his Father have the mare & whilst in his Father possession the mare was again served to the same Horse for the season.  For this continued service, his Father paid over to the owner of the Stud, the corn for the season.  Yet Louis claims that Dickerson owes him, who does not own the Horse, & wishes the same mare to pay twice in the same season to the same Horse.  If the Mare had never been served but once whilst in Dickersons possession, & had even been put to another Horse, he would have justly owed a season to the owner of Louis' stud, & as his Father continued
