there are too many stores here & too many churches for this little town.

My doorbell rung yesterday & on going to the door Jays man brought me a large bouquet of flowers Mr & Mrs Arthur Dykeman & children on the card. they were yellow & pink chrysanthemums. Kate is awful good & generous. she pities "old marm McGarvey" who has gone up to Swans Hotel to live. they have sold her house, so she may have to stay whether she wants to or not. they will have more trouble with her before she dies. she never sews & cant read, theres nothing to take up her mind but mischief. glad she is out of the neighborhood. I pity her family. she says the sons wives are to blame. Kate says its a pity Isabel her daughter died. she believes just what the old dame tells her. but we have known her ever since she came into town. he was a good man but influenced by her.

I am still watching my Poinsetta it is growing more beautiful every day & the lobster cactus has got over a hundred buds on it. they will be out by xmas. it is also interesting to watch. I am braiding up some of the rags you brought up. Kate said she would send me up some rags hope she don't forget it. Myra Coffin has died I am sending down the article it was in the Transcript Ma
