Thursday sunny but cold. Stoughton October 4th 1939

Dear Doris, 

This is our 3rd stormy day cold NWest storm with a fierce wind. I have worried more than a little over the chimney over at the old place. When Bill came Sunday night (after my bedtime) he asked about it. he takes as much interest as if I were his mother & does as much for me, he is a good chap & perfectly honest.
 
So I thought the matter over & yesterday called up Bill & told him that if he could get in touch with his man to bring him over & to see the chimney & as long as my man had not shown up. I had sent word by Lindelof twice & he don't appear to do the job. so would have him do it instead. so Bill brought him over before they either of them went to work I had just made my fire when they arrived. so they went over & examined it & he said it would have to be all done clear to the roof & next Friday or the next Monday he would be through his present job & he
