Colonel,
The Assistant Com. directs me to require you to make an investigation into the following case, Violet Jenkins- freedwoman, a resident of this city, sent about three weeks since by mail, the sum of $10.00 to the Rev M Traphier Episcopal clergyman at Spartanburg S.C. with a request that he use the money for the purpose of paying the passage of her daughter Susan Jenkins from Spartanburg S.C. to this city, said Susan Jenkins is believed to be in the family of said Trapier. You will take measures to ascertain if the money has been received and also send the girl to this city if she can be found applying to this office for the necessary transportation.
