Asst. Q.M Office Charleston S.C. February 19/69 Respectfully returned to Bt. Maj. E.L. Deane A.A.A.G with the report: that I find upon investigation now of the lumber remaining of which this bridge was constructed, nor can I obtain any evidence that would convict any particular parties of removing it but it seems that it has been recovered piece by piece by negroes and others living in the vicinity, some of it having been used in repairing other bridges on the Island. I judge that nearly every one in the vicinity has been engaged in the removal Hd Qrs Asst Com Bureau RF and AL. Charleston Decr 3 1866. Deane Edw. L.
