any one who has agreed to bring cotton to the Agency and I know no other party in the [[?]] but Maj Blassy: and I think he ought to pay me for my cotton. After I heard Maj [[?]] went to Charleston and had returned I went down to see him and asked him about the money for the cotton and he told me [[Houston?]] had sold the cotton & spent the money and he ([[?]]) had procured Houstons arrest and taken a Lien on all his property to pay for the cotton. I asked what property Houston had and he replied Houstons Uncle had just died and left him very wealthy leaving him about $5000.00 and the property is to be sold and all you colored people will get your money if the white people go without and said that Houston had drawn money belonging to him ([[?]]) and he could not get that himself but was going to let it all go if he could only see the colored people righted I also hold receipts from the Bureau Agency for cotton received from Thomas Field, John Washington and Ben Kelly amounting to Six Hundred and Sixty-Seven pounds: which certificates the above named parties turned over to me to secure me for advances I had made them in provisions
