May I ask your attention to so much of Major General Howard Comissioners Instructions to you of 4th October 1866 as contains the following paragraph "Mr Daniell complained to me that he was not dealt with as favorably as his neighbours. Please settle this case completely if you can upon precisely the same principles as that of other men like situated"

In this reference my complaint was that while the lands of Walter Blake, Allen S. Izzard, Daniel Hayward and many other neighbors had been given up to them as not abandoned mine had been held as abandoned although I had remained in possession as my neighbors had and only fled to avoid capture upon the approach of Genl Sherman as they did.  All this I am prepared to prove and further that I did not after my flight from my plantation participate in any act of hostility against the Government of the United States.  As early as January 1866 I made applications to Genl Saxton and receiving no answer then to Captain Hutchinson to have my land given up as not having been abandoned.
