January 31, 1867.

In accordance with Special Order No. 15 p II dated Hd Qr. Asst. Comsr. Bu. R.F. and A.L. So. Ca. January 28. 1867. constituting us a Board, under Sec.  [[strikethrough]] 2 [[/strikethrough]] II of "a bill to establish a Bureau of R.F. and A.L." - "to assess the value of buildings and improvements placed by freedpeople upon lands covered by possessory titles on Johns Island, S.C." we have examined and assessed the improvements on land covered by possessory title No. 297, dated May 17. 1865 located by Ben. Smith (freedman) on plantation Known as Paul Gervais "Exchange Place" on said Johns Island, S.C. as follows:

One House and Seven Huts at ¢220. Two Hundred and Twenty Dollars as a fair compensation to be made to the Said former owners of such lands or their legal representative."
