James Island South Carolina
January 25th 1867. 

In accordance with Special Orders No. 10. p. 3. dated Head Quarters Assistant Commissioner Bureau of R.F. and A.L. So. Carolina January 17th 1867 constituting us a Board under Sec. 2. of "a Bill to establish a Bureau of R.F. and AL" - "to assess the value of buildings and improvements placed by freedpeople whose land covered by possessory title, on James Island So. Carolina" we have examined and assessed the improvements placed upon land covered by possessory title No. 152. dated April 7th, 1865, located by Robert Gadsen (freedman) on the plantation known of "Hinson" on said James Island So. Ca. as follows -

One house, & one hut - and four Dollars rent unjustly claimed by said Hinson, and paid by said Gadsen, at $39 00 Thirty Five Dollars, as a fair compensation to be made to the said Robert Gadsen "by the former owners of such lands or their legal representatives."
