on the Santee river. (All colored people).
Trainings, or drills under arms had on the Saturday before Christmas, under the direction of the forenamed leaders, at the "Club House field" near the "Harietta" plantation on the Santee river.
Solomon Cohen (colored) (Foreman on Decatur Doar [[strikethrough]] e [[/strikethrough]] 's plantation) testifies, that he saw two platoons of colored men drilling, under arms; one platoon was under command of Mott Blake & one under Toney Garrett: and that he heard Mott Blake give the new commands, and tell them that any failure to appear when warned out by the "minutemen", would subject them to a fine of $5- for each offense; that on this occasion Sam Pyall was instructor, and that on this day "minute-men" were appointed on each plantation in the Parish: that he knows Charles Campbell to be the minute-man on Dr McClellan's plantation, and Francis Wethers on Dr. Wagners place, both 12 miles distant from him.
