Statement of H. Tienken.
On May 6th James Grant came to my place with a cow and calf used each and was for sometime in front of my door I asked him if that cow was for sale "he said it was to be hired out" I told him I had rather buy her; he said his wife was in the family way and he wanted to sell the calf to buy her somethings and would hire out the cow." I then made a bargain with him and hired the cow for 2.20 per month for six months and paid him $4 for the calf (Receipt and contract enclosed)
On the 10th inst the wife of James Grant came and took the cow away and was going to take away the calf which I prevented. The cow is still absent.
