Respectfully forwarded with remark that upon investigation I find the building mentioned within is a small frame one. 18x16 feet simply enclosed, use this plastered or sealed, and born on the return of Bvt Maj. Wm H.H. Hotten
AAqM. BRF & AL. as a Dwelling House & It was
erected by Col Hogley late of the 54th N.Y.v.v. Infy on Mr E Ezekiel's land in the fall of 1865 for the accommodation of two ladies then teaching the freedmen there. With the understanding when they were through with the same he was to have the house to compensate him for the ground rent. Mr. Ezekiel cares little for the house but desires to occupy the land. I therefore recommend that the building be turned over to the Freedmen at Orangeburg for school purposes on condition that they move the same off Mr. Ezekiel's land
