AMERICA acquires another important work
by
[[underlined]] REMBRANDT. [[/underlined]]

Messrs. Jacques SELIGMANN & Fils have recently sold to a CHICAGO collector, an extremely fine portrait by REMBRANDT.

This picture will now make its second trip across the ATLANTIC as it belonged tothe JERKES collection and now goes back to the UNITED STATES to the home of a well known Western merchant. It is probable that the painting has now found a permanent resting place, as nowadays very few European collectors can afford tobuy a work of art of this importance.

The picture is the portrait of JORIS de COULERY who was originally a vintner and subsequently became a captain in the Navy. This picture was given by him tohis daughter in June 1664 and shows him in an officer's uniform, holding a musket.

This picture outside of its exceptional quality has the peculiarity to be the only painting known by Rembrandt with such an accessory.
