Agent Freedmans Bureau

Sir
James Epps & myself have concluded to settle our difficulty by leaving it to two disinterested men, he to choose one & myself one, & if those two do not agree for them to pick the third man. Hence I thought it best to write to you & "Epps also requesting me to do so," to save you the trouble of sending down to have the matter investigated. We both thought it would be best to do this, rather than be put to the trouble and expence of going to Hillsboro.

Very respectfully
William Thaxton
