John Ashley being duly sworn deposes and says

I helped more all the Tobacco the part to be divided was kept by itself in moving (so, Mr. Walker men told me) I should judge the crop raised was a fair one. I was present when Osborn told Mr. Walker he wanted him paid and said the crop might remain there to satisfy the debt. I have been a renter of land all my life and the custom in Caswell County is for the renter to have one half the crop from grounds cleared by him when the owner finds everything
