William B. Lynch, being duly sworn deposes and says, Andrew Oakley told me several times that he was working a crop on Freeman Walkers plantation and I advised him to make a written contract, knowing, as I did, Mr. Walkers reputation for dishonesty, and I have known Andrew for three years and know him to be a faithful and industrious man.

The general custom of the country is that renters shall have half the crop of lands cleared by them, for two years or the whole for one year the owner of the land to furnish tools and Horse power and to receive one half crop when the lands are worked two years, unless a contract to the contrary be specially made

Wm. B. Lynch.
Sworn and subscribed to, before me
at Hillsboro, this 3rd day of March 1868.
