This is to certify that while I was acting as agent for wood contracts on N.C. R.R. we cleard land within one mile of said road left the rail timber, & paid fifty cts per cord for the wood as it growed
W. O. Fowler

So far as my knowledge & experience extends over land here will average after leaving the railtimber from 30 to 35 cords more or less.
W.O.F.

has admitted by his actions that I never agreed to give him [[crossed out]] part [[/crossed out]] all the tops for cutting, in this, that in December 1866 he did cut, haul, and deliver upon the Rail Road 8-foot wood from the same land, at the rate of one half for the other; and in this, fur[[?]] that in our settlement he admitted in the presence of Geo W. Tate, that I owed him nothing; which admission he would not have made if I had still owed him for half the 8-foot wood.

All which is respectfully submitted by
Y'r obedient Servant,
Adison E Wilson

We the undersigned respectfully submit that although it is customary to give the wood (that is all but the rail-timber) for clearing land at a distance from the Rail Road, where all that cannot be used at home must be burned on the ground to get clear of it, no such custom exists on lands along the Rail-Road line, where wood is an object. We also certify that said wood was cut by Jordan White very near the R.R. track.
