as a favor that you be pleased to let me Know whether or not the Government intends paying me at all, as I do not wish to get myself into any more disgrace among the natives who are in reality very much opposed to the education of Negroes and will consequently oppose me as much as possible.

I must say that whoever will undertake to teach another Negro School in this quarter must be supplied with funds sufficient to defray his immediate wants otherwise be provided for different to what I have hitherto been
