Office S.A.C. BR &c
Clinton Oct. 31. 1867

Lt. J. P. Richardson
AAAG

Upon the subject of education I am sorry to say I can make no favorable report. the white people do not interest themselves much and the freedpeople in Clinton & vicinity have come to a stand still in the building of their school house after having made a very fair start with most of the timber on the ground. after the novelty of the enterprise wore off, they abandoned it entirely after having purchased a lot.

Very Respy &c
