There is a general disposition on the part of the white resident to educate and improve the present condition of the Freed people, they however are opposed to Northern teacher being employed. 

After the 1st of Jany. when some leisure time presents I will endeavor to establish a school in this town, will do so before that date if it is possible. I do not think that there would be any necessity for military protection.
