Waco, McLennan, Co. Tex. Jan 31st 1867 To E. M. Wheelock:- Dear Sir:- I have been informed by Col Sturgis that an order is out for the established of Free Schools. I wish you would inform me when it is to go into effect & how I shall act to secure the position of teacher at this place. Please inform me also the highest salary I can get. If I can get good pay I can stay here & educate scholars who will reflect credit upon the colord race. I have enjoyed the advanteges of one of the highest Institutions in the country & have made teaching a life business in the North & West. The discipline they receive at the wishiwashy female schools is of but little account. I know it to be a fact that
