Office Sub Asst Com: B.R.F. & A.L Columbia Texas. August 23rd 1867. Lieut: J.T. Kirkman A.A.A. Genl: B.R.F. & A.L. Galveston. Texas. Sir: I have the honor to report that there is due to Mr. Cuthbert, teacher, two months pay - for May and June, and would respectfully request that steps be taken to have it sent to him. I have repeatedly called the attention of Lieut: Garretson to this matter, but it has availed nothing, and I now address you hoping that something will be done. While Mr. Cuthbert was teaching he discharged his duties in a manner well calculated to benefit his scholars and gain the respect of all classes - which he yet retains. The services of such a man for such business cannot be spared, but so far he has been poorly rewarded.
