I will open a night school for the adults tonight. I have already the names of 19 adults that purpose attending the night school.

There is a great want of books, and many of the children are too poor to purchase them.

Some of the citizens of this city have contributed liberally both books and stationery.

I have a very good library for the sabbath school but if I could receive aid from the Bureau in the way of books for the day school it would be a great advantage.

The books most needed are M. Guffeys series of spelling and reading books and Rays or Quackenbos Series of Arithmetics, also Bullions or Pinneo's primary and analytical English Grammar. I think that, with the books which are already donated, two Dozen of each of the above series will be all that will be needed for a year to come. I might add three or four dozen slates to the above list.
