Many of the free people are anxious to learn but they have no school. they have about $100_ subscribed towards building a house and paying for a site for it, being interrupted by the yellow fever nothing has been done, during the month of September.
The freed people have no means but the products of their labor and have had a good deal of of sickness during the prevalence of the epidemic and are not able to contribute much more at present towards building a house or purchaseing a lot - I have some prospect of procuring a lot by donation, if succesfull I shall commence a school house 25 x 20 ft.
There appears to be an increasing desire to read among the freed people. They have a Sabbath school, attended by about 40 scholars in which some time is spent teaching them to read and the make some progress.
