Office Sub - Ass't Com'r.
Bureau R.F. & A.L.
Wharton Texas July 3rd, 1867,

Lieut. J. T. Kirkman
Superintendent of Schools Bureau R.F. &c
State of Texas

Sir,
I have the honor to transmit herewith the school reports of my Sub-District for the month of June 1867.
These reports are three in number, and the schools well taught effectively by Wm. T. Gooden, Binsil[[guess]] Davis, and Harriet Smith all three of whom are colored persons. Wm. Gooden taught the school in the town of Wharton, and his school occupied a room rented for its use by the Bureau.
He is the only teacher in my Sub-District in the employ of the Bureau. I visited his school twice during the month of June. I found that he maintained good order in his school - that his method of instruction was fair and that his pupils seemed to be making good progress.
