Office S.A. Commiss'r.
Bu. R.F. & A.L.
Wharton Texas. Nov 7th 1867.

E. M. Wheelock, Esq.
Supt of Education Bu. R.F. & A.L.
State of Texas.

Sir:

Herewith I have the honor to transmit you the school reports of my Sub-Dist. for the month of October 1867. The pupils taught by Mrs. Henderson are making good progress and display a commendable interest in their studies. Mrs Henderson's method of instruction is fair. The building occupied by her school is well adapted to the purpose for which it is used. The school taught by Burrill Davis is located on a plantation eight miles from Wharton. Burrill Davis has but little education & can only teach his scholars to read & write poorly.

I do not know of the existence of a school among the freedmen in Matagorda County.

Very respectfully
Your Ob't Serv't.
Ira H. Evans.
