On the part of the white people no feeling is exhibited on the Subject of educating the freedpeople are quite passive on the occasion. The freedpeople feel a deep interest in the Subject of [[crossed-out]]the[[/crossed-out]] education & are extremely anxious to have their children educated.
The freedpeople of Wharton Co. propose building two School houses before next xmas: I know of no Schools among the freedpeople of Matagorda Co. I could Start three Schools at once if I had the Teachers for them.
The freedpeople in my Sub-Dist. may but assisted by Sending them three make Teacher.

Very Respectfully &
(Signed) Ira H. Evans S.A.C.
