Headquarters Post of Indianola,
Indianola, Texas, April 2d, 1867.

Lieutenant,

I have the honor to report, that during the month of March 1867, I established two schools in this county, one at Indianola under the charge of David Peebles, and one at Lavaca under the charge of J. O. Stevenson. The school at this point is in a very prosperous condition, and I am offered the lease of an entire block of city lots for five years, free of rent, if I will have a school house built upon it. The freedpeople here will erect the building, if the Bureau will furnish the Materials. The probable cost will be Four hundred dollars ($400) and I would suggest, that it be built, as the rent, I am obliged to pay now, is enormous, and I can do no better. I have not yet received the report of the Teacher at Lavaca so I cannot report anything definite, concerning the school at that point.

I am Lieut.,
Very Respectfully
