E.M. Wheelock Esqu. Supt. of Educt.
for freedmen and Refugees State of Texas

Sir!

Inclosed [[Enclosed]] please find School. Report of Mr. Avarne for Decbr. 1866 and a letter from him, showing that he was compelled to give up his school at Indianola, because it would not support him. He is now here and I think I will send him to the St Antonio River and organize a school there on the plantation of Mr. W.F. Hall. I also enclose his Vouchers for rent of Schoolhouse, he says, he has not received the rent for Novbr. 1866 yet; will you please inquire at H.Q. and forward the same?

Mrs. Harris has not been informed yet, whether the withdrawal of her resignation has been accepted, or not. Her report for Decbr. 1866. was forwarded by her, direct to you.

The subject of the education of freedmen, and what steps should be taken to promote the same in my District, I shall fully discuss in my report to Genl. Kiddos in obedience to his Circular letter dated Galveston
