Sir:

I have the honor to forward herewith my school report for the month of May 1867.
We have now five schools in operation in this County. the second, in the plantation of Mr. Eckington, was established on the first of this month, and will be of great benefit to the freedmen in that neighborhood. I intend to buy a lot of Col. Wilson, near by and expect to build a schoolhouse without the assistance of the Bureau. The freedmen are anxious to have a good house, and the planters are all willing to assist them.
The subject of educating the freedpeople becomes a favored topic amongst white and black; many freedmen are already able to write their own names, and to look at the earnestness with which they hold the pen, and how their eyes brighten. after the difficult task is
