In compliance with your instructions I have had a meeting this morning, with the leading influential freedmen residing within a radius of seven miles- 

I made them this proposition [after explaining your letter fully to them] I would prepare & head for them the subscription list's for their several districts, they should appoint committees from amongst themselves & visit the several plantations soliciting contributions, the same to be a lien on the Crops or Wages of the subscribers at the termination of the year. Every one seconded my idea most heartily & guaranteed a large subscription. 

I appointed a Committee of three for the Town - to receive contributions from White & Black, in Money, Material, labor &c. &c.

As soon as the subscription lists are returned to me, which I am in hopes will not be later than 15 June, a board of Trustees can be appointed to make a Contract to furnish the material &c & erect a building in accordance with some plan to be
