Lieut. J. T. Kirkman
A.A.A.G. Bureau R.F. & A.L.

Lieut.
I wrote a few days since in reference to the schools in this county. I am certain that I could establish at least a dozen large ones, if teachers could be procured. I recommended one person for appointment Rev Charles Goldberg, & I think him to be just the man for the place. He has always been a union man, nothing but his cloth saved his life during the rebellion. His character is unexceptionable in every particular. It will be necessary to hire a school-room for a month or so, until the freedpeople can build one. I would again call attention to the necessity of sending some good & true man here, to represent the Bureau. Judge Latimer considers himself out, & at any rate can-not attend to the buisness.

I am getting anxious to return to my station, that is if I am to run the School Bureau. I would like to make a trip through the state, to look after the interests of the schools.

Very Respy,
Your Obdt Servt
C. S. Roberts
2 Lieut 17 Infty
