There is but little hostility to educating the freed people, except at Navasota when I found a considerable feeling against it a school however is in operation in the town taught by a freedman, in some instances houses have been built in for school purposes the county, owing to the failure of the cotton crops it is quite difficult for freedmen to pay even the small amount of tuition acquired of men. The freed people are very anxious to have schools and I believe can be best assisted by good and efficient teachers being furnished them.
