Stoughton December 7th 1941

Dear Doris

After two warm sunny days we are having Sunday a chilly & dull one with snow flurries. the leaves are all over the yard they all blow over here there they stay on account of my rose bushes & other shrubs.. a fire is forbidden & besides I am too old to have any such thing (in my dotage).

I wrote my letter to Lena but never thought to thank her for the pretty card she sent me Thanksgiving time. Addie thought the place didn't look as though she was doing much of a business. but I guess her sewing is the main thing that she depends on. she was making a coat for someone the day she was there she said. as you say guess she is lucky to have Jimmy to befriend her. Her disposition though is such that she will never depend on any one for support. she is independent
