Abbeville, S.C.
Septbr. 19th 1868

1st Lt Wm. Stone
Sub Asst. Comr.

Lieutenant:

I have the honor to report that during the week one other shooting and one stabbing affairs have occurred in this county.

In the evening of the 10th Isaac Black, freedman, it is said while in the act of trying to open the door of his Employer - Mr. Stephen McK[[?]] corn crib, to get out grain to feed the stock, was shot by means of an appliance to detect thieves, & badly wounded. And, about the middle of the week, one colored man was stabbed to death by another, caused, it is said, by jealousy. The murderer immediately gave himself up and is now in jail. Such is the unhappy condition of our county.

Very Respectfully,
Your Obt. Sevt.
H.F. De Knight,
Clerk &c
