D.32 (Hd. Qurs. 2nd Sub Dist. S.C.) 1868 Office Bur. R.F. & A.L. Abbeville S.C. Sept. 21. 1868 De Knight, W.F. Clerk Reports that he has just heard of the shooting of Andrew Wilson, freedman, in that county by some persons unknown. He was wounded in the back and hand. Has positive information that Capt. Devil Bill Smith who in 1865 about October killed Washington Wray, freedman and ran off has for some time been at his house near Long Cane dressed as a woman. Reuben Golden who deliberately shot a cold. man at Cokesbury is said to be in Brazil. Wm. Talbert who killed Jeff Buchanan on the 11th and Davis Stacey are attending political meetings and have not been arrested. I B. 348. D. AC SC. 1868 [No. 1] Rec'd (Aiken SC.) Sept. 30, 1868. Hd. The man Golden referred to killed the freedman referred to in the Summer of 1866. The freedmen's name was Peyton. The facts were reported by the undersigned who was at the time on duty at Anderson.
