advise, applied to Squire Jas A McCord, of this place, by whom they say they were told - the first named, that he must go back to Squire McCaslan, who ought to attend to his case; but if he did not do so at once, to then come back to him - & the second named, that as the assailants on his house lived in Edgefield, he would have to go before a Magistrate there, which of course, is not correct.

It was also reported to me yesterday, that Pedlar Watson, Freedman - receiving advances of Provisions from this Office - was about a week ago, taken out of his house at night, stripped, his head tied into a sack, and he beaten so severely as to be still laid up in bed.

The same man reporting the above, viz: Geo Mathews (freedman) who two months ago was shot by Irving Hutcherson - likewise stated, that Wylie Sprouse (col, & Luke Williams, white, living near the Abbeville here, in Edgefield Co, were, on the night of the 27th Sept., taken out of their beds, by a party of 15 white men, & beaten severely; the colored man also having been stripped & had his head tied up in a sack.
