Lieutenant:
I have the honor to report that complaint was today made by Tom Irving, Robt Youngblood, and David Johnson, freedmen, that on the night of the 6th, while they were absent, their houses were entered by Sneek Sharpton, Jno Casey, John Davis, Tom Myers, Joshua Bell, & one other, unknown, all white, who, after beating the wives of two of the men, took a gun from one, $90.00 from another, & a few other small articles from all of their houses; and on going off they left word with the women, for their husbands, that unless they at once turned Democrats, they would return & beat them to death. These men all live near Darnes Gold Mine; near the Edgefield line; & Casey is the foreman there I understand. This makes the fourth or fifth affair of the kind that some of the offenders named have figured in.
