Office B. R. F. & A. L. Abbeville, S.C. October 16th, 1868 1st Lieut. Wm. Stone, Sub Asst Comr. Lieutenant: Randolph, who spoke here yesterday, was killed today at Hodges Depot, on his way to Anderson, where he was to speak this evening. He was shot by a party of three white men - out of five - while he was in the act of passing from the Abbeville to the Anderson train. "Elsey Robertson" - colored - who was present says that she knows two of the men who shot; viz. "Bill *Colvert" & ___ "Roberts". Aaron Mitchell, Bob Cunningham, & one Weston, a Minister, all colored, also saw the shooting. After the murder was committed, the five white men walked to the store, where they stopped, coolly conversing for a while, then mounted their horses, & rode off on a walk. When the parties (witnesses) above named left the scene of the murder, the body was still lying on the ground, awaiting an inquest. I was informed by Mr. Hoge, that while he & Randolph were on their way here, on the 14th, at Hodges Depot the Cars were entered by D.
