Lieutenant:

  I have the honor to report, that on yesterday Wilson Nash, freedman, complained that on the 15th inst he was shot in the hip by Joshua Logan, white, under the circumstances as follows.  Seeing Defendant & mother white man, unknown, ride up and attempt to take off a mule of his, he approached to prevent them, when he was, without any cause whatever, shot as stated.  He further states that the same night, after he had got out of the way, Defendant, in company with Mr. Talbert, who some time since killed Jeff Buchanan (Col.), and is said to have participated in two other notorious murders since that time, were hunting him "to finish him off."  The freedman brought with him the pistol ball which had been extracted by Dr. Parker of this place.  Through fear no complaint had before been made by him, & he is now staying about town, being afraid to return to his home, where he has left about 100 bushels of corn made by him.
