Reevesville, S.C.
January 28th, 1868
Gen. R. R. Scott,
Sir no one has come yet to attend to that matter and the freedmen is still carrying the provisions to the stores and disposing of it and I want you to send some one and see that they pay up as far as they can and caus them to work out the balance. I have a job of work I want done and I have not the money to hire others to do it unless they would pay me. Therefore I ask you to send some one that will make them do the work and pay up by some means they carried off more provisions than enough to pay the bill but I dout if they have enough now but if they had not sold any of it they would still more than enough to pay up.
Respectfully yours,
Joel M. Whetsell
