In accordance with your request I have the honor to make the following Statement in regard to the charges brought against me by Sanford W. Barker, Magistrate.
Mr. Barker claims that "Complaint had been made to him, that, while intoxicated, I shot twice at a freedman, endangering his life and again "that on the 14th or 15th of Dec. last I was so intoxicated as to be unfit for duty on the Provost Court."
I am astonished that a man, holding the position as Magistrate, as Dr. Barker does, should make such false reports.
