Thomas Randall freedman being a duly sworn deposes and says I live near Lt Leidtke and am well acquainted with him. I know Dr Sanford W. Barker Magistrate: he sent for me on the 3rd inst and asked me if I ever heard anything about Lieut Leidtke shooting at some one. I told him that I had heard such a report, but didn't hear who it was he shot at, but heard it was some one in the pine lands.

One evening I was coming along the road and I met Martin Parker who used to work for Lt Leidtke, he was going in a great hurry and I asked him what he was in such a hurry for. Martin said that Lieut Leidtke was going to shoot at him.

On the 3d inst Dr S.W. Barker wanted me, and tried to make me say that Leidtke shot at some one but I told him I would not do it: that I had only heard that Lieut Leidtke had shot at some one, and I never heard only what Martin said that evening. I have seen Lieut Leidtke frequently and never saw him any other way than sober. I never heard before this that he tried to have intercourse with a colored woman, & I never heard he turned his wife out of doors, or that he abused her.
